Standard British is now the go-to accent for international casting.
It’s the voice of modern drama, BBC favourites, Netflix hits, and contemporary screen roles.
But it’s not the same as RP – and it’s more flexible, more castable, and more grounded.
What’s the Difference?
RP (Received Pronunciation):
Formal. Period. Elite. Still useful – especially for classical theatre and elevated roles.
Standard British (Contemporary Southern British):
Modern. Clean. Neutral. Works across genres.
Think Clare Foy, Jodie Comer (out of Villanelle mode), or Daniel Kaluuya’s interviews.
Aussie → Standard British: What Has to Shift
1. Placement – More vertical space, lifted resonance, less spread.
2. Vowels – Narrower, more precise, with muscle.
3. Articulation – Defined without over-enunciation.
4. Intonation – Finality and confidence over drift or uptalk.
My Coaching Approach
We never mimic.
We retrain the body and voice to live in the accent – without disconnecting from story.

- Resonance shift
- Connected text work
